Yeaman Strachan was the 22nd Mayor of Wrexham in 1882 to 1883 and was from Perthshire in Scotland, he was born in 1830 and came down to Wrexham in 1857 as a gardener to Mr Thomas Irvine of Stansty Hall, he then later became a florist and nurseryman with premises on High street and also had gardens near Wrexham Train Station. He took his manager Mr Charles Evans into partnership and the firm became well known as Strachan & Evans. Mr Yeaman Strachan due to his speciality as a gardener he was given the job to design the Victorian Wrexham Cemetery and the layout you can see today, he designed the layout with the planting of the trees you can see on a visit to the cemetery. He was a Conservative and a J.P. for Wrexham. He was also an active Churchman and filled the office as Church Warden, a stained-glass window in memory of him and his daughter Emily Maud is in the South Aisle of Wrexham Parish Church. He was twice married; his first wife was from Scotland and his second wife was Miss Harrison of Plas Coch. He had two sons, James Strachan who was a Manager of Rhyl and North & South Wales Bank and Capt. Robert Strachan, also his daughter Emily as mentioned. He died 2nd December 1891 aged 61 years.
