Thomas Butt 1793 – 1883

Thomas Butt 1793 – 1883 Thomas Butt was born in Southwark, Middlesex about 1798. His parents are not known. On the 6 January 1823 he married Hannah Edwards at Godalming, Surrrey. Hannah was the daughter of Daniel Edwards and Martha Hebberd, she was baptised 31 March 1805 at Farnham where her parents married in 1797. Only one daughter has been found, Fanny who was born about 1825 in Bristol. They moved around quite a bit, living in Bristol, Norfolk, and then in Wolverhampton where Thomas was a Clerk and Excise Officer. They stayed in Wolverhampton for many years and by 1871 Thomas had retired and is living at 10 Church Street with Hannah, his daughter Fanny Mullings and her two children John who is a clerk and Lucy who is a music teacher. By January 1877 Thomas was in Wrexham when his house was broken into and a large amount of clothing and footwear was stolen, some belonging to Thomas and the rest to his grandson Eugene Mullings who was an Inland Revenue officer in Wrexham. This may explain why the move from England. Thomas died very soon after, on 15 February 1877 aged 79. His probate states he was formerly of 10 Church Street Wolverhampton, but late of 3 Carlton Villas, Sontley Road, Wrexham. Hannah remained in Wrexham and moved to 6 Talbot Road, where she lived with Fanny, they were both widows. Hannah died 8 August 1883 aged 79. Fanny remained in the same house but by 1901 she is with her son Eugene and his family in Walsall. She remained there until her death in 1916 aged 91. Researched by Annette Edwards. August 2018
