Robert was a painter and glazier who was born in Forden, Montgomeryshire, and Mary was from Broadwater in Sussex. In 1851 Robert and his family were living on High Street, Overton, John who was 9 had an elder sister Clara 17, and brothers George F 15, Richard 4 and James who was 6 months old. On 2 September 1866 John married Jane Foster at St Nicholas Church, Liverpool. Jane`s father was named as Thomas Foster, a wheelwright. Jane was from the Chester area. By 1871 Robert Foster, Mary and James their youngest son were living in Meifod Place, John B and Jane were also there in a a separate house.. The couple had 4 children between then and 1881, Mary Jane born 1871, Harry born 1875, Millie born 1876 and Bertie born 11 July 1879. Tragically three of them died within two weeks of each other in 1880. Mary Jane was buried on 28 January, Harry on 7 February and Millie just 3 days later on 10 February. Wrexham Advertiser 7th February 1880. BARRETT—Jan. 24th, Mary Jane, the daughter of John and Jane Barrett of 5 MeifodTerrace Wrexham aged 8 years and 9 months. 14th February 1880 DEATHS. BARRETT - Jan. 24th, Mary Jane, aged 8 years and 9 months; Feb. 6th, Harry, aged 4 years and 6 months ; Feb. 8th, Millie, aged 3 years and 4 months, beloved children of John and Jane Barratt, 5, Meifod-terrace, Wrexham. Just a few months later John`s father Robert died on 7 June 1880 at Meifod Terrace. He was 75. In 1881 only Bertie was with John and Jane, but sadly Jane died in 1882, she was only 37. Wrexham Advertiser 20th May 1882 DEATHS. BARRETT May 12th, aged 37, at 5, Meifod-place, Wrexham, Jane the wife of John Barrett. In 1883 John remarried to Elizabeth Davies, she was quite a bit younger than John and had been born in Rhosymedre. In 1891 they were still at 5 Meifod Place, John`s mother Mary Barrett was with them, she was now 82. Elizabeth was 30, her sister Naomi Davies was also there, she was 17 and had been born in Stansty. There were no other children, only Bertie. They moved to Princess Street where Mary Barrett died in July 1897, she was 88. By 1901 Bertie had left home. He was a railway porter and lodging with a family in Ardwick, Manchester. In 1901 John was still a painter and glazier, only Elizabeth was there, there was a lodger Thomas Lloyd Roberts aged 21, he was a stonemason from Rhyl. John died shortly after and was buried on 1 May 1901. An interesting footnote is that in the summer of 1902 an Elizabeth Barrett married a Thomas Lloyd Roberts at a Civil marriage in Wrexham.
