EMILY, THE BELOVED WIFE OF GEORGE ALDERSON, 1, MARKET STREET, WHO DIED MAY 8, 1907. AGED 39 YEARS. ALSO ETHEL, THE BELOVED DAUGHTER OF THE ABOVE, WHO DIED NOV 30, 1899. AGED 1 MONTH. Emily Alderson was born about 1868 in Aldon, Stokesay, Shropshire. Her birth name was Emily Morgan. In 1871 she was at Aldon Cottage with her grandparents William and Hannah Morgan, also there is their unmarried daughter Ellen. In late 1873 Ellen Morgan married Edwin Lamb in Ludlow, and by 1881 they are living at Cross Lanes, Marchwiel where Edwin is a coachman. Emily has taken Edwin`s name and now is known as Lamb, she has 4 siblings , Annie 7, Edwin 5, George S 3 and Willie who is just 1, also there is Ellen`s mother Hannah Morgan, she is married so William seems to still be alive. On 24 July 1889 Emily Lamb, a domestic servant married George Alderson, a groom from Staffordshire, they were both living in Abenbury. In 1891 they are in Sesswick, near Holt with sons Thomas aged 1 and George who is just 2 months. By 1899 they were in Market Street in Wrexham where Emily had a little girl named Ethel who sadly died aged just 1 month old in November. By 1901 they have more children, Edward 6, Alice Ellen 3 and baby Mary just 1 month old. In 1907 Emily died on 8 May at home, she was only 39. She had recently given birth to a daughter also named Emily who sadly died aged 2 days and was buried on 7 May 1907 in a communal grave. Apart from little Emily there were 7 other people buried there the same year, 4 of them were babies. Also buried in the same grave are two of Emily`s children. Thomas who died in 1919 and Alice Ellen who died in 1933. In 1911 Alice Ellen (Nellie) was still at home with her father who had remarried. Alice Ellen never married and died aged 35 in St Thomas`s Hospital, London. In 1911 Thomas was living with his grandparents, the Lamb`s in Wrexham. Edwin Lamb was a coachman and Thomas was a groom. On 10 December 1908 when he was 18 Thomas had joined the RWF Army Reserve (Special Reservists). He was 5ft 2 ¼ins. Weighed 10st 2lbs and had a chest measurement of 33 inches. He had a scar on his forehead. He undertook 1 months training drill in musketry in 1909, attended annual training until 1911 when he joined the regular army on 19 February 1912. He had not gone overseas in that time and his father’s address was confirmed as 1 Market Street. In October 1914 he was in France with the Expeditionary Force when he was wounded by shrapnel in his left leg. He returned home and on 21 December 1914 he married Minnie Jones in Wrexham. Their son George Thomas Erie Alderson was born in 1915. Private Thomas Alderson was discharged on 6 June 1916, because he was “no longer physically fit for service” he was suffering from Ulcerative keratitis which was a serious condition of the cornea. He was affected in both eyes which caused him great pain, it was decided that it was a result of him in India for 1 year then a short time in France and Malta. He was awarded a pension, and an extra 2s 6d because he had a child. His details stated that he had black hair and blue eyes, his trade was a groom, and he intended to reside at 33 Meifod Place, Wellington Road, Wrexham. His character was noted as a sober, honest and hardworking man. Before the end of March 1919 another son, Douglas Alderson was born, but sadly Thomas died in April 1919 aged 29, he was still in 33 Meifod Place. Researched by Annette Edwards.
