Evacuees arrive in Wrexham

Following the start of the war within a few days hundreds of young evacuees arrived at Wrexham railway station they were taken to various schools in the town. Victoria School received many of the children who were lined up in the playground while local people were allocated the number of youngsters they could find room for in their homes. My mother took in two children called Rosie & Harry. The children came mainly from Liverpool and stayed in these homes until the end of the war in 1945. Many friendships were formed between the evacuees and local people who took care of them and many have returned over the years to visit the area and the people who cared for them.
